I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America...

I forgot the rest! :) Does that mean I am a traitor ?

Welcome to the vlogging world!

I am chicken to vlog, but my Pledge is like your's. I cannot see any difference.

I grew up signing the Pledge each morning before school started, so it is pretty much ingrained into my brain.

I won't go into the "under God" part, as I have never SEEN it done any other way.

Thanks for an interesting post!

Hi Betty. Welcome to the world of vlogging. It's so nice to see more of "the wisom group" (a better world than "older" - wink) making more vlogs. Yours is a good one. I always get confused about how to sign "for which it stands." Most renditions make the sign "stand" with 2 fingers like legs, like you did. But I don't think that's conceptually accurate. I think the sign "set up" with the "a" hand shape on the other hand might be more accurate. But I've never learned to sign this well. Your rendition was lovely.

Hi, like LaRonda said, welcome to vlogging!

Thanks so much for this!! I work in a school and we are trying to figure out the right signs for the Pledge to the Flag, I see that you signed "invisible" differently like unity. I think the way you signed is beautiful!

oh, very fascinating but it's good to sign for extraordinary and liberty country as you raise.

Laronda is correct, we always used the sign for "set up" for "stand". But I am so used to seeing different signs for the same meaning that I no longer notice! "Set up" would be more than one movement, while "stand" would be one movement only.

I sign it the same but I use "show" intstead of "stand". To me that seems more conceptual.

Cheers!!

Here is my version

I signed the same as you in the beginning as it promise = pledge, support = allegiance but for the sign stand = meaning, nation = country, indivisible = not separated but I like your choice of unity sign :-)

Oh one more thing, I sign people government = republic since our government practices democracy that people are part of the government. Ideally, the government is not supposed to control the people in the definition of a democratic country.

David, good job! Oh Judge!? Tsk Tsk..I challenge you to go and practice then show us!

You got me laughing so hard!! This is so much fun!

Aww, so you expect me to excuse you for not finishing up the Pledge just because you don't associate yourself to being a singer type of signer?

Well perhaps I would but I have a problem...

You also sat when you attempted to do the Pledge at the beginning so how are you better than David and me? Hmm?

By the way, I grew up mumbling the Pledge as I never signed it until I became a teacher so we were in the same boat. All you need to do is to learn so keep on going that is if you want to! The point is..no excuse! And thanks for the reminder about standing up as you have a point though!

Hi Ya'll! I am not yet on the Vlog creation but soon will be joining as a first timer. Bear with me as I am in the make (lol)

In relation to the 4 of you people (judge, david martinez, betty and barb) debating the "Pledge to the Flag" signs or how to say it correctly.

Let me compliment each one of you on a job worth trying to correct ones other on signs. I noticed one thing was missing on your vlogs, WHERE IS OUR US FLAG? We tend to stand and look up at the US Flag and then mumble or sign with the words. We represent the US FLAG.. ( smiling)

Judge, you are correct! You are not much of a signer or singer! I expect all your sylvia on the vlog screen.. Made sense which I understood. (laughing)..

Thanks you all for this educational discussion. I do not see it as an attacker as judge stated.. He is a judge, he will consider it that wording....lol

Hey, who could beat the pledge to the flag in SEE!!!!

Come on, what's wrong with you people?!!

Hahaha...

Here's my version in SEE

:D

Here is my feedback:

I... we should use our index finger (ASL) not our pinky finger(SEE).

for which... not necessary

stands... yours is not conceptually accurate. sign show/represent

United States of America... Deafies tend to fingerspell US or USA

with...not necessary

liberty... I notice that you signed like library. sign freedom with closed fists that you did during the second part for the word, liberty.

justice... Yours is good. equal. i have seen some people sign like court which is not correct.

That is all I can think of right now. Also, yours is more like English order. Why dont you check with Indiana School for the Deaf? I understand that the committee had worked on that. ASLTA should have taken charge of that by forming a committee and brainstorming until it reaches the best version in ASL; unfortunately, that organization is almost dead.

Anyway, welcome to the V-logland in ASL!

Hi Betty,

I grew up in a Rochester Method school environment that forbade us from using ASL. We constantly were told, "Do not sign." Yes, we fingerspelled the allegiance to the flag! It was tricky for the right-handed individuals, because we simultaneously put our right hand on our heart, and spelled the pledge using our left hand. We did that with great speed. Try it! Fingerspell from "I" to "all" while counting the second hand on the clock. You see, it took me just under 15 seconds. LOL

I enjoyed your vlog, Betty.

Hi Betty! Welcome to b/vlogland! I'm new to this, too, smiles! I enjoyed watching you signing I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag, it was beautifully done! Like Judge, I grew up in an oral school but allowed to sign after school (residential). I had a good laugh with Judge's vlog, was in tears! Tsk tsk Judge, you reprimanded David Martin and Barb DiGi for sitting, when you did that yourself, lol! Double standard, eh? Thanks for sharing.
Keep on vlogging, pretty please!
Happy Fourth of July to you all!
